Visiting the Dental Hygienist

In today’s post, we discuss the importance of visiting your dental hygienist and the role these appointments can play in your dental health.

Prevention is Better Than a Cure

As with many things in life, when it comes to dentistry, prevention is better than a cure – this is where the importance of a dental hygienist is highlighted.

A dental hygienist can offer sound advice on various aspects of keeping your mouth healthy, including flossing and brushing to minimise the effects of sugary foods and drinks. Whilst you may be quite content with your current brushing and flossing routine, you may find out that brushing a different way, using a different shaped toothbrush head or another form of floss can greatly benefit your mouth.

Whilst you may wish to have a hygienists appointment before you visit your dentist, in some cases, your dentist may prefer you to go to them first so that they may determine whether you require a specific course of treatment with a hygienist or just a regular appointment which will often be shorter.

Dental Treatment

Hygienist appointments are often scheduled in alongside dental treatments to ensure the best results are given and that the mouth feels and looks its best. After dental surgery, your gums may be sensitive or need to heal. Due to this, your dentist will advise you on how long after dental treatment you can book in for a hygienist appointment.
