I’m Nervous About Calling the Dentist

We know that some people are nervous about the dentist, but that coupled with a fear of talking on the phone can mean many people wait a very long time before booking a dentist appointment, even when they really need one. In our latest post, we’ll be discussing what it can be helpful to prepare before you call us and what will happen when you give us a ring.

Calling The Practice

If you get nervous about speaking on the phone, it can be handy to have an idea of how you will explain the dental problem you are having before you ring. We won’t ask you specifics of exactly which tooth is hurting or expect you to know any medical terminology, but if you can tell us whether the tooth you are having problems with is at the front or back of your mouth and if it is at the top or bottom, that can be very helpful.

If you are experiencing pain in your mouth, the type of pain you feel may be different, depending on what is causing it. Telling our receptionists the type of pain you are experiencing can be helpful.

What Happens at My Appointment?

When you arrive at your dental appointment, you will walk into the reception area where you will be greeted by our friendly receptionists. In our reception area, we have a wide range of magazines for you to choose from. You will also be asked if you’d like a hot or cold drink. Further to this, in our reception area, we have calming classical music playing to help you feel at ease.

When it is your time to go into the dental surgery room, you will be called from the reception area by a dental nurse. Inside the dental surgery, you will find state of the art equipment and a television you can watch when laying down in the dental chair. Your dentist will listen to any concerns you have about your teeth and will work with you to create a tailored treatment plan to help you feel fully confident with your smile.
